Thoughts from a guy named Joe. Simply trying to live life the best way he can.

Sometimes you just want to be like Norm

Hey Ya’ll. Today is Sunday. The weather continues to be outstanding. Again, Mother Nature is teasing us with Beach weather. Looking ahead, it looks as if our neighbors SW of here, in the Mobile, Alabama region may experience a minor tropical front (cue hurricane) later this week. As always, I’ve made calls to all my friends in the area and offered my spare bedroom and couches to any of them that want to evacuate. Of course, they all plan to weather in place. They usually do. For me though, I thought it good to prepare myself for a possible weather event in my region. I went out today and pushed through all the crowds of shoppers at a few local grocery stores. I purchased enough food and assorted supplies (I like to do the carnivore diet) to last me a few weeks. Also, I decided that I needed a haircut. I guess I wanted to look “pretty” in the event I do have guests or if the weather thing does come my way… After pushing through the crowds at the grocery stores, I made a bee line to my favorite hair place.

For the record, I always enjoy getting a haircut. It makes me feel fresh and new. Today was no exception. The Ladies at the Hair Place were their usual happy and supportive selves. I LOVE them. I call them my Hair Huzzies; they know it and aren’t offended by it. We get along quite well and share A LOT between us. I know and accept them, and they know and accept me, warts and all. They always greet me with open arms and a big hug, and we hug again when it’s time for me to leave. We have cried and laughed and experienced love and loss and have always been there for one another. They are a part of my TRIBE. So, when I go there, I feel like that character, Norm from the sitcom Cheers. I go there because everyone knows my name and I can fall into a short period of normalcy with no baggage or expectations for self or from anyone there. It’s a short respite from the world. I can be me, and they can be themselves, no holds barred. For the record, I always feel pretty when I leave the Hair Huzzies. I always tell them how much they mean to me, in one way or another, and I always try to make their day a little better just as they did for me.

So, if you don’t have a place you can go where everyone knows your name, then you might better go find one. It could be one of the best things you ever did to find or keep happiness in your life.

Thanks, Ya’ll, for spending a few minutes with me today. Hope to see you soon.
